Comprehensive support for pelvic pain

We commission South Eastern NSW’s first Endometriosis and Pelvic Pain Clinic at Milton Medical Centre, one of six in NSW funded by the Australian Government offering diagnosis, support, and education through a multidisciplinary team.

A woman in her mid-40s experiencing persistent pelvic pain, heavy bleeding, bowel changes, and sleep disturbance was referred to the South Eastern NSW Endometriosis and Pelvic Pain Clinic by her rural GP. Previous medications had caused significant side effects, including sedation and nausea.

At the clinic, she was prescribed non-opioid pain relief and an oral contraceptive, with the option of an IUD discussed. Referrals were made for specialist gynaecology review, advanced imaging, and a pelvic physiotherapist.

She also accessed free online education sessions with a physiotherapist, psychosexual therapist, dietitian, and yoga instructor.

Scans revealed adenomyosis and deep infiltrating endometriosis with extensive bowel involvement, and laparoscopic surgery was discussed as a management option. Choosing to delay surgery, she had an IUD inserted and continued attending follow-up appointments for clinical care and support.

The pelvic physiotherapist provided pain reprocessing therapy, pelvic floor training, and strategies to manage both physical and emotional wellbeing.
